USA Jobs resume builder — the two-page federal format

In short: fill the OPM two-page federal resume template, run the field checker, then print or save it as a PDF — free, in your browser, nothing uploaded.

Since 27 September 2025 USAJOBS limits every resume to two pages. Fill in the federal fields below, see what is missing, and print a template that keeps the two-page layout.

Independent tool — not an official US government product. USAJOBS and OPM are US government services; this page is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. The checks follow OPM's two-page resume guidance (effective 27 September 2025; rules reviewed for 2026). Always follow the current official instructions and the "How to Apply" section of the job announcement.

What OPM asks for on a two-page federal resume

ContactName, email and phone, so the reviewer can reach you.
Relevant work experienceJob title, employer (series and grade for federal roles), month and year dates, hours per week and results.
Education and optional detailsSchool, degree, completion date and GPA when relevant; clearance, training, languages and publications when they help.

Keep it to two pages, in a single column of real text, with a sans-serif font at 10–14 point, 0.5 inch margins and a file size of 5 MB or less. OPM recommends saving as a PDF so the page count does not move. Remove older or unrelated roles, lead with the experience the announcement asks for, and use the words the announcement uses.

This page is a template and a checklist, not legal advice and not an official OPM or USAJOBS form. Requirements change — read the announcement before you apply.

      Questions

Is this an official USAJOBS or OPM tool?

No. It is an independent tool, not an official US government product or website. The checks follow OPM guidance, but the "How to Apply" section of the job announcement and the current OPM and USAJOBS instructions always take precedence.

What does the two-page resume rule say?

OPM guidance that took effect on 27 September 2025 limits federal resumes to two pages for competitive and excepted service jobs. USAJOBS applies the limit to resumes in your profile, uploaded files and the resume builder. A resume longer than two pages can make you ineligible, so this page estimates the length as you type.

What must a federal resume include?

Contact details (name, email and phone); for each relevant job the job title, employer, start and end dates as month and year, hours worked per week, and a description of the work and its results; and, when it matters for the job, your education or licence with the school, completion date, degree type and cumulative GPA.

How is the page estimate calculated?

From the words you enter: about 550 words fill one page at 10 point text with 0.5 inch margins, so the estimate is your word count divided by 550. Use Print or save as PDF to check the real page count before you apply.

Does the template work for a curriculum vitae (CV)?

Usually not. OPM says a position that requires a CV, typically in medical or research fields, may ask for it as an "other document" in the announcement. For everything else the two-page resume rule applies.

Is my resume uploaded or stored?

No. The fields, the page estimate and the printable template are processed in your browser; nothing you type is sent to a server or stored.
